Guide to Relieving Sinus Problems and Sinus Infection

Healthy Homemade Remedies

Homemade remedies are used to heal almost anything from the head to the feet. Sinus problems are no exception. There are numerous homemade remedies that can be used to fix most sinus problems that recur in people that have sinus troubles.

In many cases, the intervention of synthetic medicines may be necessary, but oftentimes, homemade remedies will prevail and can fix most situations. If homemade remedies are used properly, their effects far outweigh anything else considered and are able to last longer than other treatments. If you suffer with sinus problems, there are several homemade remedies that you can try:

1) Use a humidifier to breath in warm, moist air. The warm air from the machine will line the inside of the nose and keep it from drying out. Since the dryness is what causes the sinus problems, proper and frequent use of the humidifier should correct this. Be sure to locate the machine as close to the person as possible. There are also saline solutions that can be purchased that are used in conjunction with humidifiers. These solutions increase the results of the humidifier.

2) Moisten the nasal passages with the help of a saline nasal spray. Using a saline nasal spray is natural and unlike any salt sprays that can potentially become addictive. Saline sprays can be used up to six times a day. Keeping the nasal passages moist with saline allows the body to perform repairs more in a natural state because it has more of a natural substance in it.

3) Quit smoking or, if possible, avoid all contact with cigarette smoke. Cigarette smoke dries out the lining of the nose and makes it a potential breeding ground for sinus problems. The dryness in the nose attracts debris and germs and can set up nasal infections almost immediately. Also, avoiding second hand smoke or polluted air is also key because of the toxins in the smoke and the damage it can cause to the nasal passages.

4) Avoid all exposure to things that can trigger allergy or sinus problem symptoms. This would be strong perfumes or odors, certain household chemicals or abrupt changes in body temperature.

5) Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water to avoid germ transference that can lead to colds. Keeping germs at bay all start with clean surfaces.

6) Seek immediate treatment for colds before sinusitis sets in. Colds can turn into nasty sinus infections if not treated immediately.

7) Avoid alcoholic drinks which can cause swelling of nasal and sinus tissues.

8) Using a hair dryer set on medium to high heat, hold the dryer as close to your head and nasal passages as possible. This procedure, much like the humidifier procedure, will loosen up any congestion in the nasal passages and cause the nose to start draining. This is only beneficial if the nasal passages are congested and won’t drain on their own.

9) Ingesting a teaspoon of lemon juice daily will also help in alleviating any sinus congestion problems that you may have. The lemon juice is "acidic" and works by pushing toxins out of the body.

Curing Your Sinuses Through Sinus Acupressure

A great percentage of the American population suffers from sinus problems. There are always searches to find the right remedy or the right concoction for fixing those that travail with sinus issues.

If you uncomfortably suffer from sinus pressure and pain due to sinusitis or a sinus infection, more than likely you have tried many different medications in a quest to relieve your sinus problems. Unfortunately, for some people, medications just are not effective.

Many times, conventional methods for treating sinus infections and sinus pain just do not work for the average sinus sufferer. There is always the option to seek alternative medications or natural medicines in a search to relieve the problem.

One treatment that has becoming increasingly popular is sinus acupressure for sinus relief. Sinus acupressure is an ancient healing art that was developed in Asia over five thousand years ago. The technique used in sinus acupressure involves using the tips and pads of the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin.

This action stimulates the body's natural self-curing abilities. When these skin points are pressed, they release tight muscular tension and promote the circulation of blood and the body's ability to aid in healing. Many practitioners of this sinus acupressure technique firmly believe that applying the right pressure to certain areas of the body can help relieve symptoms of sinusitis and sinus pressure.

A person suffering from sinus pain may also notice immediate relief when applying pressure to certain areas on the head and face. Light to medium pressure can be applied to either side of the nostrils, the sides of the bridge of the nose, or at the middle of the forehead between the eyebrows. These are all sinus acupressure points that have been used successfully in therapy for sinus relief.

However, acupressure for sinus relief is not limited to the pressure points in the face and head. There are also spots on the back of the neck and the top of the hands that have been proven to provide relief for sinusitis sufferers when pressure is applied to those areas.

In performing sinus acupressure, it is important to pay special attention to any areas which may be sore or numb, tingle, or feel unusually hot or cold.

It sometimes happens that acupressure points that need to be massaged or worked will be sore or even hurt. Those points may also have other odd sensations like cold, heat, numbness, etc.

In many cases these points may be located some distance from the problem area. It is advisable to visit a certified acupressure professional for your first treatment for sinus problems, of course, after consulting with your doctor first.

Experimenting with acupressure for sinus relief may help to ease the pain and pressure of this debilitating problem even more than medication. It can also help sinus sufferers to avoid the need for sinus surgery. If traditional methods of sinus relief aren’t working, holistic treatments such as acupressure can be a welcomed new treatment.

Finding Relief Using Hand Acupressure

Hand acupressure is a technique that is very similar to body acupressure and body massages. Applying this type of technique to combating the ills of sinus problems is increasingly becoming preferred over the use of drugs to treat sinus problems.

Remedies that favor more natural uses and diagnoses are being sought out by larger populations of people in an effort to feel better, quicker and for a longer period of time. Many chemical remedies exist that help in alleviating sinus problems but there is a natural remedy that can also be used for relieving sinus problems that occur often in sinus patients.

This procedure is called hand acupressure. The term hand acupressure is not as commonly known to many, but another name for which this procedure is known by is called reflexology.

Reflexology and the technique of hand acupressure is based on a system of points on the hands, feet and ears that correlate to, or "reflex," to other areas of the body. There are certain points on the hand that affect certain areas of the body. The technique of hand acupressure is very similar in theory to general acupressure.

Practitioners of the technique, called reflexologists, believe that applying controlled, direct pressure to these points effectively stimulate the flow of energy and help to relieve pain or blockages throughout the entire body. Reflexology or hand acupressure is also widely used to ease stress and

promote relaxation. It is also a very common practice in high-end nail salons and personal service spas to apply this technique during the manicure service.

To help get rid of sinus pressure and pain, gently press the points at the palm of the hands for a couple of minutes. There is also one reflex point on each side of your nose, found near your nostrils. You can press them simultaneously by using the index and middle fingers of one hand. To perform sinus acupressure, locate the points about one and a half inches in from the edge of the webbing between your index finger and thumb.

Put your thumb on the point and your index finger on your palm and use a pinching technique to stimulate the point deeply for one to two minutes. Repeat this same procedure on the other hand. Repeat two to three times a day, and repeat regularly as a preventative, for sinus pain, blocked nose and headache.

Some of the major advantages of this type of acupressure is that it is quite safe to use on yourself or on others, provided that you follow instructions in order to gain optimal results. Hand acupressure to treat sinus problems is free of any side effects or potentially dangerous toxins being introduced into the body.

Besides relieving recurring sinus pain in most people, sinus acupressure can help rebalance and restore the body successfully by dissolving any tensions and stresses that keep it from functioning smoothly.

It also helps to discourage any factors that that inhibit the immune system. Sinus acupressure enables the body to adapt to environmental changes and resist illness.
